The book contains papers of Soviet and foreign biologists concerning the pharmacology of synaptic receptors: the physiological role and the mechanism of action of acetylcholine, noradrenaline, dopamine, 5-hydroxytriptamine, gamma-aminobutyric acid and other transmitters as well as action of pharmacological agents on the transmission in different synapses of vertebrates and invertebrates. Those papers have been discussed during the symposium «Comparative Pharmacology of Synaptic Transmission» (Leningrad, May 1975). Among the authors there are known Soviet and foreign specialists studying different problems of synaptic transmission. The book may be of great interest for broad area of physiologists, pharmacologists, biophysics, as well as for the physicians and biologists who are dealing with problems of synaptic transmission.
