This volume is the first to present a selection of studies to the English speaking reader. The articles report researches on perceptual processes. The study of peception, especially that of visual perception, has alway been one of the main fields of experimental psychology in Hungary. It is characteristic of the studies presented here that they combine a cognitive psychological approach with elaborate psychophysiologicol methods and concepts. The authors regard perception as the result of a series of coding processes. At the same time, however, they want to go beyond the mere description of these coding processes, towards their explanation in terms of physiological mechanisms.
