This research aimed to identify the profile of those involved in the complaints made to the Victims in Domicile's Service Center (SAV) in Curitiba (Brazil) between January and October 2009. Ve conducted a cross-sectional study of 155 confirmed complaint forms of abuse against children and adolescents (aged 0 to 16 years). The complaints involved 70 cases of physical violence, 48 of negligence, 10 of psychological abuse and 9 cases of sexual abuse, the other 18 cases involved more than one type of violence associated. Statistical analysis revealed that maltreatment occur more frequently in families with divorced parents (60 cases), and are in full perpetrated by people who are part of the family circle, and the mother (83 cases) and father (33 cases) stand as the main aggressors. Of the victims, 75 were males and 80 females, with most of them concentrated in the age group 4-11 years. The study concludes that, the situation of maltreatment is urgent and needs more scientific studies and social effective measures to combat It. – (International Journal of Developmental and Educational Psychology = INFAD Revista de Psicologia ; ano 25, № 1-vol. 1) .
