Introduction. This study had two main objectives: 1) to analyse the evolution of the core symptoms of ADHD and the associated cognitive problems and emotional lability severity in subjects with a childhood diagnosis of ADHD, at both the group and individual levels and 2) to find out whether there were statistically significant differences among adults with a childhood diagnosis of ADHD and adults without ADHD. Method. 25 subjects diagnosed with ADHD in childhood, following the DSM-IV criteria, were evaluated again eight years later. In phase 1 and in the phase 2 follow-up, the parents filled in the version for children and the version for adulfs of the Conners' scales (CAARS). Results. The manifestations of inattention, hyperactivity and impuisivity, and the cognitive problems and emotional lability diminished in the follow-up compared to baseline. However, approximately 40% of the subjects with ADHD continued to manifest problems on the different variables evaluated in the adult life. – (International Journal of Developmental and Educational Psychology = INFAD Revista de Psicologia ; ano 25, № 1-vol. 1) .
