The present textbook on linguistic analysis and test interpretation is meant for students of English Departaments. The texts by distinguished English and American authors included in the book presen examples of good literature. The book equips the students with the essentials and techniques of philological interpretation of literarary texts worked out by Russian and Western scholars. The aim of the textbool is to summarize the achievements in literary criticism, linguistic studies and employ them for better and deeper undestanding of literary texts, for analytical and appreciative reading. The book based on the principles and achievements of Decoding Stylistics evolved in Russia by prof. I.V. Arnold and her disciples. Acknowlegements: The authors would like to thank G.V.
