Erik H. Erikson is one of the leading figures in the fieldof psychoanalysis and human development. His clinical practice has included the treatment of children, he has studied the process of growing up in a variety of cultural and social settings and he has been a training psychoanalystfor many years. for more than a decade he was on the Senior Staff of the Austen Riggs Center, and he has participated in the researches of the Harvard Psychological Clinic, the Yaleinstitute of Human Relations, the Institute of Child Welfare at the University of California, and the Western Psychiatric Institute in Pittsburgh. He is now Professor of Human Development and Lecturer on Psychiatry at Harvard. Childhood and Society was Professor Erikson's first book, and in the few short years since its publication it has become a classic work on the social significance of childhood. It has appeared in seven foreingn languages. Young Man Lutber, his second book, is a unique and profound integration of psychoanalysis and history in a study of emergent leadership. Professor Erikson is extending his studies to problems of generativity in middle age. His new book, Insigbt and Responsibility, reviews the ethical implications of the psychoanalytic study of life histories.
