In this monograph the author of "Sexual Deviation" and "The Integrity of the Personality" writes both as a psychotherapist and as a human being living in an age when 'The end is nigh' соuld well be the truth. But the coin of aggression, as he shows, bears two faces. As a positive and natural drive he discusses its normal role it the social structure of both animals and men and its function in childhood, adult life, and sexual relations: in its negative aspect he considers hostility in relation to depressive, schizoid, paranoid, and psychopathic personalities. He closes with a pleа - modest, humane, and never Utopian - for atitudes and policies which in the long run might reduce hostility between men and nations.
