Bowlby, John.
Separation: Anxiety and Anger / John Bowlby. – Harmondsworth : Penguin Books Ltd., 1975. – 504 p. – (Attachment and Loss / J. Bowlby ; volume 2) .
In this second volume of "Attachment and Loss" John Bowlby continues his much-acclaimed work on the importance of the parental relationship to mental health. Here he considers separation and the anxiety that accompanies it: the fear of imminent or imagined separation, the fear induced by parental threats of separation, and the inversion of the parent - child relationship. Dr. Bowlby re-examines the situations that cause us to feel fear and compares them with evidence gained from from animals. He concludes that fear is most often aroused by intrinsically harmless situations which we recognize as warnings of an increased risk of danger.
