This book is about some aspects of Piaget`s cognitive-developmental theory regarding the number concept. Part I describes three training experiments which focus on the transition from non-conservation to conservation of quantity. It is concluded that we shoul use longitudinal research focusing on the individual rather than training research focusing on groups. Part II is devoted to the investigation of the psychological reality of central concept in Piagetian theory, namely cognitive structures. Three investigations are reported. It is concluded that data obtained and their intepretation are bound closely tj the method used by the researcher as well as the theoretical position he has taken.
